1. Data Import for Brokerages: TAPro supports several import methods. Sync Import is the easiest to use. For detailed instructions select one of the options below. Alternatively review the instructions in part 2 below.
2. File Import (in general): Most Brokerages offer .QIF (Quicken® Format) and .OFX (Money® Format) files. TAPro and TA Online can import these files.
TAPro includes a file import utility. During file import TAPro remembers your decisions and creates an Import Template for the selected broker and file type. During the next import of the same file type, for the same broker, you can reuse a template and apply prior decisions automatically. TAPro maps import field names to standard field names. Fields that are not mapped are assigned the name "extra" and not imported. During import TAPro confirms symbol types (stocks, Calls, Puts etc.). If the data includes Exercise/Assign/Expire events then also define the option's underlying details after the import (using File/Add Modify Symbols). Here is a video with more details - click here. Here is a list of field names that TAPro can import: Below are suggestions of how to import various file types. A. QFX/OFX Import: Here is a video with more details - click here. B. QIF Import: C. TAB Delimited Import: If you edit the file with Excel or Notepad, consider the following simplified format:
D. CSV Delimited Import: Here is a video of .CSV import with more details - click here. If you edit the file with Excel or Notepad, consider the following simplified format:
Data is sometimes provided as one long quoted row that looks like the example below.
This will cause an error because the quotes at the end of the string define it as one field instead of comma separated fields. The file does not follow the .CSV standard. This is easily corrected with Notepad, search for " and replace it with nothing.
Watch for commas hidden in number fields. The example below will cause and error because the thousands separator is a comma.
In Excel, select all columns with numbers, select "Format Cells", select "Number" and remove the check mark from the "Use 1000 Separator" box, see below. 3.
